Air Force men end San Jose State’s season

Chris Joyce had a career-high 20 points as Air Force easily beat San Jose State 87-56 in the first round of the Mountain West Conference tournament on Wednesday in Las Vegas.

Ryan Swan had 14 points and eight rebounds for Air Force (14-17). Lavelle Scottie added 10 points. A.J. Walker had seven assists for Air Force.

Air Force posted a season-high 25 assists.

Seneca Knight had 15 points for the Spartans (4-27). Noah Baumann added 14 points. Zach Chappell had 10 points.

Michael Steadman, who led the Spartans in scoring coming into the day with 14 points per game, failed to make a shot from the floor (0-for-5).

Sixth-seeded Oregon gave up the first basket of the game, then went on an 18-point run to put the first-round Pac-12 tournament game out of reach early in an 84-51 victory in Las Vegas.

It was the most lopsided game in Pac-12 tournament history. The tournament’s largest margin of victory had been 32, accomplished twice.

The Ducks (20-12) got big contributions off the bench, with Ehab Amin scoring 17 points and Miles Norris 14. The Ducks face Utah on Thursday.

Washington State (11-21) shot 31 percent and had no players score in double figures.

USC 78, Arizona 65: Bennie Boatwright had 22 points and 11 rebounds, helping the eighth-seeded Trojans roll in the opening round.

USC (16-16) started slowly but went on 18-2 runs in each half to earn a spot in Thursday’s quarterfinals against top-seeded Washington.

Ryan Luther scored 16 points for Arizona (17-15), which barring an invite to a smaller tournament will not play a postseason game for the first time since 1983-84, Lute Olson’s first year as head coach.

Briefly: Jordan Burns had a career-high 35 points and Will Rayman added 18 to lead top-seeded Colgate (24-10) to a 94-80 victory over No. 2 Bucknell in the championship game of the Patriot League Tournament in Hamilton, N.Y., giving the Raiders their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1996. … Kerry Blackshear had 19 points and 10 rebounds to help No. 16 Virginia Tech (24-7) beat Miami 71-56 in the second round of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament in Charlotte, N.C. … All-Big 12 forward Dean Wade is expected to miss the entire Big 12 Tournament for No. 15 Kansas State because of a foot injury that has lingered for much of the season.

Women: Braydey Hodgins scored 16 points to lead Boise State to its third straight Mountain West Conference tournament title in Las Vegas, beating Wyoming 68-51. Hodgins, the tournament’s MVP, hit all six of her field goals, including two 3-pointers, and converted both free-throw attempts for the top-seeded Broncos (28-4).
