What is Klay Thompson‘s favorite moment as a member of the Golden State Warriors? He seemingly has a long list of accomplishments to choose from.
He’s won the NBA Finals three times. He scored an NBA-record 37 points in a single quarter. He’s set NBA records for most three-pointers in a regular season game, and most three-pointers in a postseason game. His heroics in pivotal Game 6’s against Oklahoma City in 2016 and then against Houston in 2018 and 2019 is the stuff of legend.
But according to teammate Andre Iguodala, Thompson’s favorite moment as a member of the Warriors is hitting a 50-foot shot and taunting Iguodala afterwards.
“When Klay’s turn came, we all assumed he was going to say that his highest moment was the day he scored 37 points in a quarter against Sacramento,” Iguodala wrote. “I mean, that was an NBA record! But he didn’t. Instead he said, ‘My best moment was one night I caught a pass and I was like fifty feet from the basket and I was about to shoot it. And all of a sudden, I hear Andre being like, ‘What the f—, Klay? You’re fifty feet out.’ And I thought about it for a second and shot it anyway. It went in, and I was like, ‘Yeah, Andre, f— you.'”
“We all had a good laugh about that,” Iguodala said of Thompson’s story. “I was like, ‘Wow, really dog? That was your best moment?'”
Thompson suffered a torn ACL in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals, and general manager Bob Myers said on Thursday Thompson has yet to undergo surgery.
The shooting guard is an unrestricted free agent this summer, but his father Mychal Thompson told The Chronicle’s Connor Letourneau there’s “no question” his son re-signs with the Warriors.
