Catcher Jonathan Lucroy, who returned from a concussion and broken nose Wednesday following a home-plate collision last month, was designated for assignment by the Angels on Friday.
Lucroy, a two-time All-Star, was bowled over at home plate by Houston’s Jake Marisnick on July 7. He was placed on the 10-day injured list and missed 18 games. Lucroy was 2-for-4 against Detroit in his final game with the Angels.
Lucroy, 33, batted .242 with seven homers and 30 RBIs in 74 games. He signed a one-year, $3.35 million deal with the Angels in December after hitting .241 with four homers and 51 RBIs for the A’s last season.
“When you’ve got to give bad news to people you like, it’s not a lot of fun,” manager Brad Ausmus told MLB.com.
Catcher Max Stassi, acquired from Houston on Wednesday, replaced Lucroy on Los Angeles’ roster.
