With the Golden State Warriors moving from Oracle Arena to the Chase Center in Mission Bay next season, the Curry family will most likely have to move out of their East Bay residence to make Stephen’s commute easier.
“That what I’m trying to figure out. Our family’s rooted in the East Bay,” Curry said on his YouTube show last week.
In an interview with KRON, Ayesha confirmed the family is looking for a place in San Francisco.
“We’ll most likely have to relocate,” she said. “It’s going to be different for us but we love the Bay in its entirety. We’re just very happy to still be here.”
Like many families searching for housing in the city, the Currys have been taken aback by the astronomical home prices.
“We’re searching, we’re on the hunt,” Ayesha said. “I’ll tell you what though, San Francisco, we’ve had some sticker shock here.”
According to a Realtor.com report, national median list prices crossed the $300,000 mark for the first time in March. That is still only roughly a quarter of San Francisco’s median asking price of $1.35 million.
The same report states that home prices in San Francisco were actually down 3 percent from February to March.
The Curry family has lived in several spots in the East Bay since he was drafted in 2009. He had a pad in Orinda, before moving to a Mediterranean mansion in Walnut Creek. More recently, the family was living in a 5-bedroom, 8.5 bath home in Alamo.
“The commute on the bridge … I feel like I’m gonna have to pull a Kobe. Kobe to the Staples Center,” Steph said about a potential commute from the East Bay to the Chase Center.
This is a reference to Kobe Bryant’s infamous Staples Center commute, where the former Laker sometimes had to commute by helicopter from his home in Orange County to the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles to avoid traffic.
