Big rig loses its trailer, shutting down SF freeway offramp

A tractor trailer became unhitched on Highway 101 on Wednesday morning, causing an off ramp to be closed, authorities said.

Around 4:30 a.m., a big rig was traveling south on Highway 101 and took the exit at Cesar Chavez Street going east when the trailer became detached, said Officer Bert Diaz, a California Highway Patrol spokesman.

Officials shut down the eastbound off ramp at Cesar Chavez Street, so a tow truck can remove the trailer. CHP did not have an estimate of when the roadway would re-open.

The incident didn’t cause any collisions or injuries, Diaz said.
