Cal football player hospitalized in Southern California

Sophomore defensive back Bryce Turner suffered an undisclosed medical emergency and is hospitalized near his Southern California home, according Cal football officials.

“Our positive thoughts, prayers and energy are with Bryce and his family,” head coach Justin Wilcox said in a statement posted on the school’s social media accounts. “We are thankful to the medical professionals who have cared for Bryce and continue to monitor his condition. We will do everything we can to support Bryce and his family during this difficult time.”

St. John Bosco Prep (Los Angeles County) went 41-3 while Turner was there 2013-15, and he helped Long Beach City College to a 9-2 record in 2016. The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder redshirted at Berkeley in 2017 and a had tackle against Idaho State in his debut this season.
