Cal men fall to Oregon as losing streak hits 11

Cal entered play Wednesday with a share of the school record for the longest losing streak, 10 games.

Unfortunately for the Bears, the 2018-19 squad now has sole possession of that mark.

Payton Pritchard had 20 points and 10 rebounds, Louis King added 12 points and host Oregon defeated Cal 73-62.

Paul White and Kenny Wooten added 11 points apiece for the Ducks (14-9, 5-5 Pac-12), who had a 33-23 rebounding edge and overcame 15 turnovers.

Justice Sueing scored 17 points to lead the Bears (5-17, 0-10), whose 10-game losing streak entering Wednesday had matched that of the 1961-62 squad. Paris Austin and Connor Vanover each had 12 points, and Matt Bradley added 10.

Pritchard’s 3-pointer gave Oregon its biggest lead, 60-44, with 5:52 left. The junior had 11 points in the second half as the Ducks went 17-for-26 (65.4 percent) from the floor after the break.

Arizona news: Arizona has initiated the process to fire assistant coach Mark Phelps and suspended him indefinitely without pay because of an NCAA rules issue. The school said in a statement the move was not related to a federal probe into basketball recruiting.

UConn romps

Katie Lou Samuelson scored 31 points and Napheesa Collier hit all 10 of her shots and added 21 points to lead No. 5 UConn to a 118-55 win over East Carolina in Hartford, Conn.
