Car fire inside MacArthur Tunnel blocks traffic

A car fire inside the General Douglas MacArthur Tunnel in San Francisco is causing traffic woes in the area.

Calls came in about a car on fire a little before 12:30 p.m. Sunday. According to the CHP traffic incident report page, the car was “fully engulfed” in flames, although the driver was able to walk away safely.

Northbound lanes of the MacArthur Tunnel reopened around 12:50 p.m., but southbound lanes are still blocked. CHP is diverting traffic onto Merchant Road in the Presidio while they await cleanup and towing of the burned-out vehicle.

The estimated time of reopening for all lanes is not yet known.

More details will be added to this post as they become available.
