Morning commuters should plan ahead as a closed-off southbound lane on Highway 17 in the Santa Cruz Mountains will reopen until Thursday.
The storm brought down the hillside and a tree near Sugarloaf Road Wednesday and the backup stretched for miles.
Drivers heading toward Santa Cruz from the Santa Clara Valley were stuck for hours.
“It’s horrible,” said Vanessa Santiago. “Last year I saw the same thing, so it’s pretty rough trying to get home now.”
Drivers heading from Santa Cruz to the Santa Clara Valley are in the clear as both northbound lanes are open.
