Downtown Oakland fire under control

A blaze swept through a vacant building in downtown Oakland on Sunday morning, sending plumes of black smoke into the crisp winter air.

Oakland firefighters dispatched several crews to the flames, in a building heavily tagged with graffiti on the 1500 block of Webster Street. Firefighters announced that they were battling a “heavy fire” Sunday just after 10 a.m., and 30 minutes later said it was under control.
