Fatality on Caltrain tracks in Santa Clara prompts delays

Several Caltrain lines were delayed Tuesday afternoon after a person on the tracks in Santa Clara was struck and killed, the transit agency said.

The collision involved a southbound train and happened around 12:45 p.m., said Caltrain spokesman Haroon Malek. There were about 35 passengers on board at the time, and no one else was injured, he said.

Another southbound train was holding at Mountain View, and a northbound train was holding at Diridon.

Delays ranged from 10 to 20 minutes.

Police are investigating the incident and did not immediately have additional information, Malek said. It was Caltrain’s 13th fatality of 2018.
