California Governor Gavin Newsom was in attendance for the NFL’s regular-season finale between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks Sunday night, and was seen gabbing with a number of Seahawks-affiliated individuals.
Prior to the game, the governor was spotted on the sidelines speaking with Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, as well as Delisa Lynch, the mother of the recently signed Marshawn Lynch.
Despite his chumminess with the out-of-state foes, Newsom took to Twitter to support the 49ers.
“We love Marshawn Lynch but he’s on the wrong side tonight,” he tweeted. “Enjoy the WILD CARD, @MoneyLynch … the NFC West Title is staying in California!”
Lynch of course was signed earlier in the week following two season-ending injuries in the Seattle backfield.
If the 49ers beat the Seahawks, they will clinch a first-round bye and home-field advantage for the duration of the NFC playoffs. Due to earlier wins by the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers, Seattle is unable to earn a bye with a win over the 49ers. Should the Seahawks win, they will host the Minnesota Vikings next week.
The loser of Sunday night’s game will travel to face the NFC East champion Philadelphia Eagles next week.
