‘It was so nerve-racking’: Ayesha Curry describes serving President Obama at International Smoke

Entrepreneur and restaurateur Ayesha Curry spoke about serving President Barack Obama at the San Francisco location of her restaurant International Smoke on President’s Day when she appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Wednesday night.

Curry was there to promote her new game show, “Family Food Fight,” when Kimmel asked her about serving the former president. SFGate wrote about this when it happened, but it turns out that Curry didn’t just cook for and serve the president. She and her husband, Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry, ate with him.

“It was nerve-racking,” Curry told Kimmel. “Everything was like down to the 11th hour, and I thought we were just hosting, only to find out we were actually invited to the dinner.”

But that’s not where the surprises ended – Curry was asked to give a welcome speech at the dinner for Obama, who’s known for his superior oratory skills.

In order to calm her nerves, she turned to a totally natural soothing technique: sabering champagne bottles (which she can apparently do with an iPhone).

“The way I lighten the mood is by sabering bottles of champagne. I was like, well, I’m going to do what I usually do,” she remembered. “[I] had the knife, standing five feet behind President Barack Obama, and didn’t realize that the Secret Service was like inching toward me.”

She wasn’t tackled by Obama’s security – instead she successful sabered the champagne bottle that she was holding and said that everyone “let out a sigh of relief.”

Well played, Chef Curry.
