Senator Kamala Harris will formally kick off her presidential campaign in the Bay Area this weekend, as the Oakland-native throws her hat in the ring of what’s expected to be a crowded field of 2020 candidates for president.
A big crowd is expected at her first campaign rally at Frank Ogawa Plaza at 12:45 p.m. Sunday where Harris is expected to explain why she’s running for president and her vision for the country.
“So everyone it’s official I’m running, I’m running for president of the United States,” Harris announced on Twitter Monday.
The senator got her law degree from UC Hastings and was San Francisco’s District Attorney in 2004. She became State Attorney General in 2011, turning around in 2017 to become a U.S. Senator.
