Shortly after the New Orleans Pelicans secured the first overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft on Tuesday night, a number of NBA fans began sharing a tweet from Kevin Durant saying he’s “headed to New Orleans.”
Just one problem: The tweet was from 2009. In fact, the tweet was from so long ago that the Pelicans were known as the “New Orleans Hornets” at the time.
The context of the tweet is not clear, but at least this is: Durant did not just announce his free-agency plans.

Still, the tweet has since racked up thousands of retweets, and undoubtedly fooled some unsuspecting fans who did not check the time stamp.
Other Twitter users marveled at how quickly people were able to unearth Durant’s 10-year-old tweet.
“People on Twitter work way too fast lol,” one user wrote.
Others dusted off the old “My Next Chapter” memes with photoshopped images of the widely panned cover of Durant’s 2016 Player’s Tribune article in which he announced his decision to sign with the Warriors.
Durant did not play in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, and is unlikely to suit up for Game 2. NBA free agency officially opens in July.
