This summer has had a bit of a “the band is breaking up” feel for the Golden State Warriors. And, naturally, some departures hit closer to home than others.
Clearly, Klay Thompson has a lovely friendship with Quinn Cook because the normally understated star had effusive words upon learning Cook was signing a contract with the Lakers.
“Gonna miss going to battle with u bro,” Thompson wrote on Cook’s Instagram. “One of the best teammates and highest character guys I ever been around. Lakeshow got a real one!!”
The move is particularly poignant for Cook, whose late father, Ted, was a diehard Lakers fan who stayed up late on the East Coast to watch their games. Ted passed away after having a heart attack during surgery when Quinn was 14.
“To this day, I still think about my dad all the time,” Cook told The Chronicle last year. “Somewhere, I know he’s looking down on me and smiling.”
Fellow ex-Warrior DeMarcus Cousins is also signing a short-term deal with the Lakers. His one-year contract is reportedly for $3.5 million.
Cook played for the Warriors from 2017-19, averaging 7.8 points per game.
So far this offseason, Kevin Durant, Andre Iguodala, Quinn Cook, DeMarcus Cousins and, reportedly, Damian Jones have left or been traded by the team.
