Klay Thompson knows his team wouldn’t be where it is if not for Kevin Durant.
The Warriors’ Thompson took to Instagram ahead of Game 6 on Thursday to celebrate the contributions of his injured teammate. Durant revealed Wednesday he’d undergone surgery for a ruptured Achilles, an injury sustained during Monday’s game.
“Gameday, and it’s obviously a big one,” Thompson captioned the post — a photo of himself and Durant on the court. “But DubNation, I need you to reflect on the fact that we would not be in this position if it weren’t for this man and his sacrifices. He’s the reason there are banners hanging in the rafters of Oracle.
“I’m gonna need every Dubs fan in the building tonight to bring the same fire K brought everyday to the court !!” he continued. “It’s not gonna be the same running out that tunnel without u bro. We all know this is a minor set back for a major comeback !! Nothing can impede this mans greatness.”
Thompson also implored his followers to “lay it all out there tonight” in honor of the 47 years the Warriors called the Oracle Arena home. Thursday night marks the team’s final game in the stadium before it moves across the bay to a new arena in San Francisco.
Thompson isn’t the only one hoping Durant makes a speedy recovery. After news broke of his injury Wednesday, thousands responded to the basketball star’s Instagram post wishing him well.
