The tributes to Oracle Arena and Oakland from the Golden State Warriors extended universe keep coming.
This time it’s from Warriors guard Steph Curry and Under Armour, the shoe company with which he has an endorsement deal.
Under Armour announced Monday they are releasing an edition of the Curry 6 shoes inspired by Oracle Arena, where Curry played basketball for the Warriors during the first decade of his career.
For those who have been living under an arena for the past couple of years, the Warriors, who called Oracle and Oakland home for 47 seasons, are moving to San Francisco next season where they’ll play at the Chase Center.
The shoes are called the “Curry 6 Roaracle colorways,” after the nickname given to the Oakland arena and its raucous crowds. In 2017, the Warriors were given the Best Home Court Advantage award by NBA Players Association during its Players Voice Awards.
Curry’s new kicks are a bright red, no doubt a nod to the red lettering of Oracle Arena signage, with lime green bottoms. Among the cooler features of the shoe are decibel meters on the tongue and in the arch. Under Armour said in a press release the feature was “inspired by the thundering decibel levels of Oracle Arena, and a nod to the support of Dub Nation that is found across the world.”
The shoes are just one part of a round of goodbyes as the team’s time in Oakland comes to a close. At the final game at Oracle, some of the East Bay’s most legendary rappers played halftime and the Warriors organization gave out rally towels that paid tribute to Oakland and Kevin Durant. And after the team’s Game 6 loss in the NBA Finals, Ayesha Curry penned a moving farewell to the arena and its fans on Instagram.
This isn’t the first time Under Armour has tried to pay tribute to Oakland with an edition of its Curry 6 shoes, either. In January, the company released a version of the shoes that were styled after Oakland’s Fox Theater and threw a party at the Fox to celebrate the release of the kicks.
Under Armour’s newest limited edition Curry 6 shoes will release on June 21 in Japan, China, North America and select cities around the world.
