Parishioners of a Los Gatos church were mourning the loss of their pastor, who died while snowboarding with his family at a Sierra ski resort.
Craig Jutila, 53, suffered a heart attack on the Powderhorn trail at Sierra-at-Tahoe around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Ski patrol paramedics tried to revive him but were unsuccessful, according to a press statement from the resort.
Jutila was pastor of family ministries at Venture Christian Church.
“Craig’s leadership as Pastor of Family Ministries has made such a difference at Venture,” Senior Pastor Tim Lundy wrote on the church’s website. “His writing and speaking ministry to families has helped countless homes and lives around the world.”
Jutila is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary; children Alec, 21, Cameron, 21, and Karimy, 20; his mother, Betty Jutila; and stepmother, Barbara Jutila.
A celebration of life service was to be held Monday at the church.
