Man shot and killed after breaking into tent in Stanislaus National Forest

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting death of a Watsonville man who broke into a couple’s tent Thursday morning.

The shooting happened in the Stanislaus National Forest at Deadman Campground.

Police say the 36-year-old Watsonville man entered an unassociated couple’s tent around 2 a.m. and the woman woke up to the Watsonville man on top of her.

The woman yelled to wake her boyfriend up,and the Watsonville man was shot after a confrontation.

No arrests have been made. The Sheriff’s Office said it is working closely with the Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office.

Police say names are not being released at this time pending additional investigation and notification of family.
