Oakland A’s will donate proceeds from game to Gilroy Garlic Festival victims

The Oakland A’s will donate proceeds from purchases of select food items to victims of the Gilroy Garlic Festival shooting, during Tuesday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Oakland Coliseum.

The team announced on Twitter that proceeds from the following concession purchases will benefit those affected by the mass shooting:

  • Garlic fries from either Oaktown Grill (at section 132 and section 211)
  • Garlic fries from Shibe Park Tavern
  • The “Gilroy Garlic” burger from Smoke (outside of Treehouse)

The team’s donations will go to the Gilroy Foundation’s Gilroy Garlic Festival victims’ relief fund. The nonprofit group, which has served the Gilroy community since 1980, plans to distribute donations to victims of the tragedy, as well as other nonprofit groups providing relief efforts, according to the foundation’s website. Individuals who are interested in contributing to the fund can donate online.

As reported by The Chronicle, the town of Gilroy is in a state of shock after a gunman opened fire on the crowd at the annual food festival on Sunday evening, killing three and injuring 15.

The A’s fundraiser is a show of support to the community of Gilroy, a gesture that resonated with many fans. “NorCal people taking care of each other,” wrote one fan on Twitter.

The Oakland A’s are scheduled to play the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday at 7:07 p.m.
