One dead after Interstate 580 motorcycle crash

One person is dead following a Sunday afternoon motorcycle crash on westbound Interstate 580 between Livermore and Tracy, authorities said.

The crash happened around 1:06 p.m, when a motorcycle and SUV collided near the Grant Line Road off-ramp. A third vehicle hit the motorcycle rider shortly after the incident was reported, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The left and center lanes were blocked by the crash, prompting CHP to issue a severe traffic alert. There was no estimated time to reopen those lanes.

It is unknown if weather was a factor in the crash. The CHP and Alameda County coroner’s office are investigating the incident.
