Oregon women top Washington for fifth win in row

Erin Boley scored 28 points and Sabrina Ionescu had 20 points and 10 assists to help No. 5 Oregon outlast Washington 84-71 on Friday.

Satou Sabally added 17 points and 12 rebounds as the host Ducks (12-1, 1-0) opened defense of their Pac-12 title with their fifth consecutive victory. Ruthy Hebard had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

After the Huskies (7-7, 0-2) pulled within one point in the fourth quarter, Oregon finished on an 18-6 run. Sabally’s corner three-pointer off Ionescu’s assist put the Ducks up 80-69 with 45 seconds left.

Alexis Griggsby led Washington with 26 points off the bench, and Amber Melgoza had 23.

#11 Oregon State 76, Washington State 69: Mikayla Pivec scored 14 points to lead a balanced offense as the Beavers (11-2, 1-0 Pac-12) held off the visiting Cougars (6-7, 1-1). Borislava Hristova, who scored 38 points in her previous game, had 24 points for Washington State.

#22 Arizona State 65, Utah 63: Reili Richardson hit an off-balance 20-foot bank shot at the buzzer as the Sun Devils (10-3, 1-1 Pac-12) edged the host Utes (12-1, 1-1). Courtney Ekmark scored 15 points for ASU; Megan Huff had 17 to pace Utah.

Arizona 69, Colorado 67: Sam Thomas’ layup with 36 seconds left snapped a tie and the visiting Wildcats (12-1, 2-0 Pac-12) held off the Buffaloes (10-3, 0-2), who missed three shots in the final 17 seconds. Aari McDonald scored 32 points to lead Arizona; Quinessa Caylao-Do scored 21 for Colorado.

Men

#20 Buffalo 74, Eastern Michigan 58: Montell McRae scored 18 points and Nick Perkins added 15 to lead the visiting Bulls (13-1) past the Eagles (6-8) in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams.
