Overnight Standoff in Milpitas Ends in Arrest

After an overnight standoff that lasted for four hours in Milpitas, police have taken a middle-aged Asian male into custody after he allegedly assaulted a woman and then barricaded himself inside his residence.

The incident, which started around 11:40 p.m. Thursday near 23 N. Temple Drive, began when the suspect, who the apartment manager said was acting erratically, went outside and hit a woman, the manager said. He did not know if the suspect knew the victim.

The suspect then barricaded himself inside the residence. Milpitas police and SWAT responded, but the suspect did not come out, despite multiple call-outs from officers.

The incident ended around 3:30 a.m. after SWAT officers used flash-bang grenades.

Both sides of Calaveras Boulevard and Temple drive were closed to traffic.
