Pedestrian killed after being struck by vehicle in San Francisco

A pedestrian died Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle in San Francisco, police said.

Officers responded to a call of a woman being hit by a car at at the intersection of Fifth and Market streets at about 8:50 p.m. First responders were called to the scene to attend to the victim, but she died at the scene from her injuries, said Officer Robert Rueca, a San Francisco police spokesman.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the incident, Rueca added.

The immediate area of the collision is expected to be closed to traffic until about 12:30 a.m. as officers continue to investigate the scene.

No other information on the incident was immediately available.
