Pothole shuts down runway at San Francisco International Airport

A runway at San Francisco International Airport was unexpectedly closed Thursday for a pothole repair.

“We are currently making unscheduled repairs to a 12-inch area of Runway 28L,” SFO spokesperson Doug Yakel told SFGATE at 9 a.m.

An update from the airport posted on Twitter states runway 1R is also closed during the repair, with 28L expected to open at 3 p.m. Thursday and 1R opening in the early afternoon.

The temporary closure is expected to cause flight delays.
