Diego Rubio had a goal and an assist and the host Colorado Rapids beat the Earthquakes 2-1 on Saturday night, snapping San Jose’s five-game unbeaten streak.
Rubio poked a roller around defender Guram Kashia inside the post to make it 2-1 in 73rd minute. Rubio has scored all six of his goals this season in his past eight games, including one in each of the past three.
Colorado’s Kellyn Acosta got the scoring started by ripping a low right-footer from 25 yards out that deflected off the hand of Quakes goalkeeper Daniel Vega into the net in the 44th minute.
The Quakes (11-8-5) got one back after a failed clearance attempt by the Rapids, when Danny Hoesen tapped it to Valeri Qazaishvili to tie it at 1-1 in the 62nd. It was Qazaishvili’s seventh goal in his past 11 games.
The Earthquakes remain tied for third in the Western Conference with Minnesota, one point behind second-place Seattle.
The Rapids (7-12-5) have won back-to-back games following a four-game winless streak.
