The break in NASCAR’s Cup Series schedule will wait at least an extra day.
Sunday’s race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn was postponed because of rain. It was rescheduled for 2 p.m. PDT Monday, the second time in just more than a month that a Cup race has been pushed past the weekend because of weather.
The race at Dover early last month was also pushed to Monday. That left a quick turnaround before the following Saturday’s race at Kansas. That’s not an issue this time. The Cup schedule has an open date before resuming June 23 at Sonoma.
• Defending champion Lewis Hamilton won the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal to extend his overall lead after Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel committed yet another error under pressure.
Vettel’s car crossed the line first but Hamilton won after a time penalty was imposed on Vettel.
Host nation Portugal won the inaugural UEFA Nations League tournament, beating the Netherlands 1-0 in Porto.
Goncalo Guedes scored early in the second half to give Portugal its first trophy since the 2016 European Championship.
In the third-place game, goalkeeper Jordan Pickford scored a penalty kick and then saved one to give England a 6-5 victory over Switzerland in a sudden-death penalty shootout.
• Sloppy defense and careless goalkeeping sent the United States to a 3-0 loss to Venezuela in Cincinnati in its final exhibition before the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
WNBA: Jonquel Jones had 17 points and 13 rebounds, Alyssa Thomas also had a double-double and the visiting Connecticut Sun turned back the Atlanta Dream 65-59. … Tina Charles scored 21 points to help host New York end a franchise-long 17-game losing streak with an 88-78 win over the Las Vegas Aces. … Tianna Hawkins and Aerial Powers combined for 39 points off the bench and the host Washington Mystics cruised past the winless Dallas Wings 86-62. … Brittney Griner scored 26 points, DeWanna Bonner added 25 and the visiting Phoenix Mercury used a dominant first half to defeat the Indiana Fever 94-87. … Cheyenne Parker came off the bench and scored 18 points with 11 rebounds and the host Chicago Sky held off the Seattle Storm 78-71.
Basketball: Former Michigan guard Charles Matthews tore his anterior cruciate ligament in a workout with the Boston Celtics and will have surgery, agent Adam Pensack said.
Crime: A former Florida football player, Earl Antonio “Tony” Joiner, was arrested and charged with killing his wife in a case in Fort Myers dating to 2016, police said. Joiner was a former safety under then-head coach Urban Meyer.
Horse racing: A second horse in two days and 29th overall has died at Santa Anita. Truffalino collapsed in the final stages of the third race on turf. A track spokesman says the 3-year-old filly died of a heart attack. A day earlier, Formal Dude pulled up in the 10th race after breaking down near the finish line.
