One person was killed after a small plane reportedly crashed on Mount Diablo, several media outlets are reporting.

The crash was believed to have happened sometime overnight, Mount Diablo rangers confirmed to SFGATE via phone. Officials received a call about the downed plane Saturday afternoon.

The plane wreckage was reportedly discovered near Summit Road.

The aircraft is possibly a Mooney M20 that was scheduled to fly from Hayward to Lincoln. A family member apparently reported that the plane was overdue, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman told KTVU.

The pilot was believed to be the only person in the aircraft at the time of the crash.
