SF Giants make trade for Tyler Austin

Looking to strengthen a roster that has started out the season 3-7, the San Francisco Giants acquired first baseman/outfielder Tyler Austin from the Minnesota Twins for minor league outfielder Malique Ziegler.

A former Yankees farm product, Austin has spent time in the past four years in the majors first with the Yankees from 2016-18 and last season and part of this year with the Twins. Ziegler has a combined .232 career batting average.

To bring Austin onto the club’s 40 man roster, outfielder Connor Joe was designated for assignment. Joe had one hit in fifteen at-bats this season.

Malique was drafted by the Giants in 2016 and was on the club’s Single-A team in San Jose.

The Giants, who have yet to win a season series this year, will have Madison Bumgarner on the mound Monday night against the San Diego Padres.
