Skateboarder struck and killed in San Francisco

A collision in San Francisco left one person dead after they were struck by a truck in the SoMa district.

A skateboarder was reportedly hit by the driver of a dump truck on Seventh Street between Howard and Mission streets, according to police. The skateboarder was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were asking residents to avoid the area of 7th and Mission streets, and Muni buses are being rerouted around the area.

The fatal collision is just one block away from a crash in March that left a 30-year-old cyclist dead. The city removed parking from the north side of Howard Street, between Fourth and Sixth streets to create a larger buffer between cyclists and vehicles.

This is a breaking story and will update as more details become available.
