Teen girl from South Bay dies in 700-foot fall at Arizona landmark

A 14-year-old girl from the South Bay fell to her death on Christmas Eve at Arizona’s Horseshoe Bend landmark, officials said Wednesday.

The girl and her family were visiting from San Jose, according to the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office. She was last seen at an outlook around 2 p.m. and was reported missing at 4 p.m.

An Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter spotted the girl’s body 700 feet below the overlook that day but did not retrieve her until Christmas morning.

Officials believe she accidentally fell and are still investigating the incident.
