Terrell Owens is 45 years old but is still making jokes (we think?) about wanting to return to the NFL.
On Monday, Owens visited the San Francisco 49ers’ facility in Santa Clara while he was in town for his former teammate Derrick Deese’s golf tournament, and he uploaded multiple videos of himself to his Instagram story.
While using a vibrating foam roller in the team’s locker room, the former wide receiver proclaimed, “Get that blood circulating early this morning, I’m ready to go just in case they want to sign me,” in an unusually raspy voice.
“No, I’m just stopping by to holler at some of the guys, you know what I mean,” he clarified.
But after filming himself using the roller and talking about a recent pickup basketball game, Owens went back to telling other teams he’s ready.
“To all NFL teams, 45 or not, I stay ready, so I don’t have to get ready,” he said. “Just call me, just call my phone, and I will come running.”
Wait is he serious?
“Red zone, that’s all I need,” the former five-time All Pro added. “Third down and red zone. [There’s] going to be some problems.”
That was the final video he uploaded from the locker room. He uploaded another video from the golf course a few hours later.
This isn’t the first time T.O. has talked about returning to the 49ers.
In June 2018, 49ers general manager John Lynch sent a congratulatory tweet to the former wideout for his work with the Alzheimer’s Association, a nonprofit committed to finding a cure to Alzheimer’s. Owens responded to Lynch’s tweet, and appeared to ask the general manager for a job.
“Thanks. I know Jimmy G is gonna need a big play receiver this year at some point,” he tweeted. “Let’s make it happen. #StayReady #VetMin.”
“#VetMin” likely refers to the veteran’s minimum contract, a one-year deal with minimal guaranteed money.
