Third suspect arrested in case of slain Monterey doctor linked to Playboy model

The third suspect accused of murdering Dr. Thomas Burchard has been arrested.

Jon Kennison, 27, was booked into the Clark County Jail in Nevada on April 17.

Arrest warrants show that investigators believe Kennison was one of three people involved in Burchard’s death. Burchard was a 71-year-old doctor from the Monterey area.

Kennison was Kelsey Turner’s boyfriend at the time of the incident. Police say Burchard had “an intimate relationship” with Turner, a former Playboy model, and paid rent on a Las Vegas home where Turner, Kennison and Pena lived.

Diana Pena turned herself into law enforcement last week after being named in an arrest warrant. All three suspects now reside in Clark County Jail and await trial.

Kennison was arrested on the charges of open murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

It’s been more than a month since police found Dr. Burchard’s body stuffed in the trunk of an abandoned Mercedes off a rural road just outside of Las Vegas. The gruesome find reportedly led detectives back to the home in Las Vegas, where Metro Police reports tell of blood throughout a bedroom, efforts to clean it up and a door broken in two with blood on each half; likely the result of a fight.

Cell phone records also reportedly show the three abruptly moving out of the house and checking into the Rio Hotel and Casino, even though Dr. Burchard had paid the rent through March.

Turner’s mother, Samantha, told KSBW that Kelsey Turner and Burchard had known each other for years. Burchard had paid the rent on a home in Salinas where Kelsey and her mother, and Kelsey’s children all lived.

A neighbor confirmed that Kelsey and her family lived at the home for “about a year”.

“In fact, there were calls for police on a few occasions,” Marcelino Alejandro, who lived next door to Turner in Salinas, said. Marcelino also said there were also parties and disturbances.

An anonymous source who originally told Action News that Burchard was renting out the Salinas home, said Turner moved to Las Vegas after Burchard stopped paying rent on the home.

The source said that Burchard met Turner online and was giving Turner and her mother, “Anywhere from two-four thousand dollars a week, easily.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
