A man was killed Tuesday on a Martinez road when a woman in another car crossed into incoming traffic and hit his vehicle, police said.
The crash happened on Cummings Skyway just north of Highway 4 around 10:45 a.m., said Officer Sean Wilkenfeld, a California Highway Patrol spokesman.
The woman, driving a Ford sedan, appeared to have drifted off the road and onto a dirt shoulder, then overcorrected and crossed into traffic moving in the opposite direction, Wilkenfeld said. The man, driving a Nissan Xterra, collided with the passenger side of the Ford.
The man, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman suffered major but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital, Wilkenfeld said.
The road was closed following the collision but reopened around 1:30 p.m.
CHP is investigating whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, and encouraged witnesses to call the agency at 925-646-4980.
