Family, friends and community members in Napa held a vigil Wednesday night for Douglas Davis Jr., a 54-year-old cyclist who died after he was attacked during a bike ride on the Napa Valley Vine Trail.
At about 10 p.m. Jan. 30, police and firefighters responded to a report of a person down along the trail’s bicycle path, southeast of Main Street and Central Avenue.
First responders found Davis lying near his bicycle and suffering from traumatic injuries, police said.
Davis was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Napa police detectives and the department’s Special Enforcement Unit found evidence of foul play and are investigating the death as a homicide.
A week later, investigators were seeking witnesses in the case. Police are offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest.
Anyone with information should contact the Napa Police Department at (707) 257-9375.
