It was the quality of game you’d expect from something named the Cheez-It Bowl.
After more than four hours of torture, TCU finally pulled out the overtime win against Cal on Wednesday night. The final score — 10-7 — only begins to capture the so-bad-it-was-good quality of the contest.
There were nine combined interceptions, a kicker swap that resulted in a missed field goal and a sideline interference penalty for a Horned Frogs staffer who tripped over a yard marker. The offensive output of both teams was so meager, ESPN had to spotlight TCU’s Jalen Reagor who, at the time of the feature, had zero yards receiving.
Alas for Bears fans, the game puttered to a conclusion with an interception (fitting), followed by the winning TCU field goal.
“I’m glad that’s over,” TCU head coach Gary Patterson said.
On that, we can all agree.
