Unbeknownst to most, Stephen Curry was playing a secret game during his recent All-Star Weekend interviews.
“A couple weeks ago, we asked him to try something fun,” late-night host Jimmy Fallon said on his show Monday night. We gave him three weird phrases and asked him to sneak them into the interviews he did over All-Star weekend.”
In order of increasing difficulty, the phrases were: “Energizer bunny,” “flippin’ pancakes,” and “wham bam can of ham.”
Video of the Warriors star slipping in the phrases is mostly noteworthy for the little, “I’m about to make a joke” smile that appears on his face before dropping each one. You can see his attempts not to laugh in the video above.

The quotes were picked up in earnest by the New York Times:
For much of his trip home, Curry was accompanied by his father, Dell, who spent 10 seasons playing for the Charlotte Hornets, and his mother, Sonya, who drilled a half-court heave after the family helped refurbish a community center. It was probably the family’s splashiest shot of the weekend.
“I was surprised,” Stephen Curry said, “because the first four she flung underhand, they didn’t make it to the rim. And then that last one, it just looked good from the moment it left her hand, and I was going, ‘Wham, bam, can of ham! That’s going in!'”
Curry’s All-Star Game appearance, though delightfully flashy, ended in a loss. Team LeBron took the game, 178-164.
Curry is back in Oakland today for an event with former President Barack Obama. The pair are headlining “MBK Rising,” a symposium on how to support young people of color. It will be hosted this afternoon at the Oakland Scottish Rite Center; Curry and Obama are helming the town hall.
