3 detained after man set on fire in Sacramento County dies

ISLETON, Calif. — Three people have been detained after a man was set on fire and died Monday in the Delta area of Sacramento County, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office was called just before 8 a.m. after getting reports of a burn victim in the 14600 block of Isleton Road between the towns of Walnut Grove and Isleton, according to Sgt. Tess Deterding with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The man, 28 years old, was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

By Monday evening, three people were detained in connection with the fire and death. Detectives do not believe any suspects are outstanding, the sheriff’s office said. No motive is currently known.

The investigation began with a report of a fire surrounding a shed. The victim was found about 50 yards away from the shed, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies searched the area Monday for potential evidence and people who may have been involved.

Authorities also found a white pickup truck in an embankment about 500 yards south of the victim.

“We believe it may be associated with the person or people that were at the scene with the victim,” said Lt. Dan Donelli.

The California Highway Patrol closed Isleton Road from the Isleton Bridge to the Georgiana Slough Bridge to help deputies with their investigation. The road has since reopened.

No other information was provided.
