A cyclist was seriously injured in a traffic collision in northwest Berkeley Wednesday morning,. The incident occurred at about 7:15 a.m. at Cedar and Ninth streets.
The Berkeley Police Department reports that a pick-up truck was traveling east on Cedar Street when it was struck by a bicyclist who was traveling south on Ninth Street. Police confirmed they are investigating whether or not the cyclist stopped at the nearby stop sign.
The cyclist, a 58-year-old Albany resident, has been transported to the hospital. The truck driver, a 30-year-old Berkeley man, remained at the scene.
The police department’s Fatal Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene to handle the collision investigation. The intersection had been closed for several hours, but at 11:45 a.m. the department announced that the intersection had been reopened.
