The Angels’ first baseman had a busy weekend. On Friday, he was in New York at the United Nations to receive an award. On Saturday, he played in a “B” game at the team’s complex, and on Sunday, he went 3-for-3, including his first spring homer. Pujols wants to be remembered more for what he has done off the playing field rather than on it. On Friday, the U.N. Women for Peace Association presented its Humanitarian Award to Pujols, wife Deidre and their “Strike Out Slavery” anti-human trafficking group. The Pujols are devoted to fighting human trafficking in the U.S. and around the world.
The Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain forward dealt with two injuries, not one, at last year’s World Cup. In a TV interview Sunday, Neymar said a problem in his right ankle was affecting his recovery in Russia, as well as the metatarsal fracture in the same foot. “The recovery was crazier because of this,” he said. Neymar said the metatarsal injury did not unduly trouble him in Russia, but the ankle did. Brazil was eliminated by Belgium in the quarterfinals. Neymar is recovering in Brazil from another metatarsal injury in his right foot that he sustained in January.
