Former Oakland Raiders receiver Amari Cooper said the Raiders held a team meeting to discuss Khalil Mack’s dominance with the Chicago Bears a week after he was traded.
Cooper, who was traded in the middle of the season to the Dallas Cowboys, said on Sirius XM NFL Radio’s “The ThomaHawk Show” Friday that Raiders players watched Mack’s debut with the Chicago Bears and were left feeling uneasy.
“When Mack got traded it was like a week before opening night,” Cooper said. “Our first game was on Monday night against the Rams. Their first game was on Sunday night against Green Bay, so we were able to sit down and watch their game before we went to our hotel room, and obviously, everybody knows how he dominated that game. He had like a pick-6, a sack-fumble, another sack; he just wreaked havoc that whole game.”
Cooper said that players were happy for Mack, but were unsure of the organization’s direction.
“Guys were kind of looking at the game like, happy for Mack, but mad for the organization,” Cooper said. “So we actually had to have a meeting about what Mack did on that Sunday night. So we played Monday, we came back in Wednesday, we had a meeting about that, because some guys were just mad, like, ‘Are they really trying to win here? Or am I just here for nothing?'”
A week before the start of the regular season, Mack was traded to the Bears for multiple draft picks including two first rounders. During his Bears debut, Mack recorded a sack, forced fumble, recovered fumble and an interception returned for a touchdown.
Mack racked up 12.5 sacks during the season, and was named to his fourth-straight Pro Bowl.
The Raiders recorded 13 sacks as a team for the entire season.
When discussing his own trade from the team, Cooper said he had some time to prepare for it due to rumors he saw on social media.
“I had heard rumors, had seen some things on social media so I really had time to prepare mentally for it a little bit,” he said. “So when the trade actually went down, it was still surreal at the time, but I was kind of prepared for it a little bit.”
The Raiders traded Cooper to the Cowboys for a first round pick on Oct. 22. Cooper caught 53 passes for 725 yards and six touchdowns, and was also named to the Pro Bowl.
