At age 32, Buster Posey is solidly in the wily veteran stage of his career. He’s no longer posting an .850 OPS with elite defensive metrics; in 2019, the longtime Giants catcher has just four home runs. As he gets up there in age, some may start to suggest Posey move to playing first base full-time to relieve him of the stress of catching every day.
These theoretical critics may want to take a back seat for the time being, because during the Giants’ 10-7 win over the Brewers Friday, Posey showed his arm can still be as good as anyone’s in the majors.
On an 0-1 count in the third inning, the speedy Lorenzo Cain got a great jump as he took off for second base. Posey sprung out of his stance and uncorked what can only be described as a literal perfect throw.
“Damn perfect throw,” wrote one extremely impressed Twitter user. “You dont get anymore perfect than that. I had to watch it a couple times just for the wow factor!”
“Hands down best throw I’ve ever seen to second base,” wrote a Reddit user.
Many others echoed this sentiment on a number of social media platforms, and the Giants’ video of Posey’s throw was liked and shared by thousands of impressed fans.
Posey capped off the night with a grand slam in the top of the 10th to break a 6-6 tie and propel the Giants to victory.
