After losing Game 1 of the NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors would welcome back Kevin Durant as soon as possible. Conflicting reports say that could happen as soon as Game 3 or 4 or possibly later in the series.
Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports reported from league sources that Durant would return to the team either Game 3 of the Finals next Wednesday or more likely Game 4 next Friday.
However, the Chronicle’s Connor Letourneau reported from a Warriors team source that the team is optimistic Durant will be back for the NBA Finals, but have “no idea” what game he will return.
The Warriors’ leading scorer has already taken part in three or four individual on-court activities this week. He still needs to participate in a full team practice before he would be cleared to return to action.
Durant was averaging 34.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game before suffering a right calf strain in Game 5 of the NBA Western Conference semifinals against the Houston Rockets.
“KD is an all-time great player on both ends of the floor,” Stephen Curry said after last night’s game. “We’ve obviously proven that when he’s out that we have guys who step up. That will be the case until he [Durant] gets back.”
