Dons win 4th in row, a blowout of Salukis

Jordan Ratinho had 15 points as visiting San Francisco beat Southern Illinois 76-60 on Saturday night.

Khalil Shabazz had 13 points for San Francisco, which won its fourth consecutive game to start the season. Jimbo Lull added 11 points and three assists. Jamaree Bouyea had nine rebounds and seven assists for the Dons.

The Dons jumped out to a 9-0 lead and took a 38-31 advantage into the break. Ratinho drained a trey to put them up 56-39 with 12:59 remaining in the game, and the Dons coasted to the win.

Aaron Cook had 13 points for the Salukis (2-3). Eric McGill added six rebounds.

San Francisco takes on Cal State Bakersfield at home on Tuesday. Southern Illinois plays Murray State on the road on Tuesday.


Hay sparks Santa Clara comeback

Tia Hay scored the last four points of the game, including the game-winning layup with 0.2 of a second on the clock, as visiting Santa Clara (3-1) came back from a 16-point, third-quarter deficit with a 28-point fourth quarter and beat UC Davis 62-61.

“The team came back from being down, and I’m really proud of them,” Santa Clara head coach Bill Carr said. “The bottom line is they kept fighting and gave themselves a chance to win. We talk about winning the fourth quarter and finishing, so that was nice to see today as well.”

Hay led the Broncos with 14 points and three assists. Ashlyn Herlihy had 13 points and seven rebounds.

In the second half, UC Davis was 6-for-24 from the field and 1-for-10 from beyond the arc after going 13-for-26 and 6-for-12 in the first 20 minutes.

“The defensive intensity changed in the fourth quarter,” Carr said.

USF 79, Cal State Northridge 61: Mikayla Williams had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Abby Rathbun added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the host Dons (2-1), who had five players in double-figure scoring.
