Raptors super fan Drake has made a lot of headlines since the onset of the 2019 NBA Finals. Not as the series turns from Toronto to Oakland the question on everyone’s mind: Will Drake show up to Game 3 at Oracle Arena after his Raptors got beaten by the Warriors in Game 2?
First, there was Darren Rovell’s tweet on Sunday about expensive seats being sold to Game 3 that included a photo of the Raptors superfan, implying that… maybe it was Drake who bought the pricey tickets?
After Game 2, Warriors stars Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson confronted Drake while he was leaving the arena, returning some of the trash talk that he’d been spitting the first two games of the series. “We’ll see you in the Bay, Aubrey,” Klay Thompson told the Toronto rapper. “You weren’t talking tonight were ya?”
On Tuesday morning, Pittsburgh sports producer Steve Benko posted a photo the rapper’s private “Air Drake” plane and said it was spotted at LAX in Los Angeles.
Then Toronto mayor John Tory suggested that the most famous rapper from his city might just be in Oakland for Game 3 on Wednesday morning. “Be on your toes,” Tory told Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf in an interview on CBC Radio’s Metro Morning before mentioning that Drake might show up in The Town.
Then, Wednesday afternoon speculation turned to the Oakland International Airport tarmac. Janelle Wang of NBC Bay Area tweeted helicopter footage of private planes taxiing at Oakland International and asked “Are one of these Drake’s?” None of the planes carried the signature powder blue of the “Air Drake” plane posted the day before.
And, in perhaps the creepiest bit of information about Drake’s whereabouts related to the NBA Finals, a man was spotted carrying a giant cutout of Drake’s head through the SFO airport.
Will Drake be at Game 3? Who knows. But if he does end up court side, drama is likely to ensue.
