Oakland A’s recall Daniel Mengden to majors

Daniel Mengden was recalled from the minors to join the Oakland A’s in time to start their game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

To make space for Mengden, Oakland optioned reliever J.B. Wendelken to Triple-A Las Vegas.

With the 80-game suspension of Frankie Montas last week for performance-enhancing drugs, there is a hole in the A’s starting lineup that Mengden will try and fill. He had a 1-1 records and 5.09 ERA in five games and three starts earlier this season for Oakland before being sent down to Triple-A.

Wendelken was only on Oakland’s major league roster since last Friday. He tossed two-thirds of a scoreless inning on Tuesday night to get a win.
