San Jose Earthquakes draw 1-1 at D.C. United

Chris Wondolowski gave the Earthquakes a first-half lead and goalkeeper Daniel Vega made some outstanding saves throughout the match, but D.C. United’s Luciano Acosta scored a putback in the 67th minute for a 1-1 draw in Washington.

Wondolowski, who broke Landon Donovan’s MLS career scoring record last month, snuck around United defender Jalen Robinson to get space to head home Nick Lima’s cross in the 37th minute for San Jose (5-6-3).

With the point, United (7-4-6) increased its lead in the Eastern Conference to two points over the Philadelphia Union.

U.S. roster: Lima, a defender from Castro Valley and a Cal alum, and Quakes teammate Jackson Yueill, a midfielder, were named to the 28-man U.S. training camp roster by coach Gregg Berhalter ahead of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Yueill was not on the 40-man preliminary Gold Cup roster and will be among the cuts before the U.S. submits its 23-man Gold Cup roster to CONCACAF by Wednesday’s midnight deadline. However, Yueill could make his U.S. debut against Jamaica in Wednesday’s exhibition in Washington.

In other roster news, goalkeeper Brad Guzan was left off and forward Jozy Altidore is back with the national team for the first time since the October 2017 loss at Trinidad and Tobago that cost the Americans a World Cup berth.
