From the looks of it, San Jose Sharks star forward Tomáš Hertl is having an awesome postseason, but he just can’t get enough of his team, so much so that he went swimming with sharks while on vacation in Bora Bora.
He posted photographic evidence of his love for Bora Bora, his squad, and his squad’s namesake to Instagram on Tuesday and included “#newteammates” in the photo caption.
The Sharks were eliminated from the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs by the St. Louis Blues in the Western Conference Finals on May 21. (The Blues are currently tied 2-2 with the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup Finals.)
A week after the loss, Hertl posted a photo of himself to Instagram along with the caption, “Thank you to the @sanjosesharks organization and to the best NHL fans for a great season. We will come back and be better than ever.”
The photo of him swimming with sharks is the first photo he’s posted since then. In it, he’s throwing two thumbs up at the camera, and he’s donning a shirt of his beloved franchise. There are three other photos he posted along with the one with him in the Sharks shirt. One shows him swimming above a giant underwater rock formation that says “I Love Bora,” another shows him petting a ray, and another shows what looks like a barracuda with his mouth open, showing pointy teeth.
That’s right. A San Jose Shark was swimming with sharks while wearing a sharks shirt.
The Czech player has lots of reason to love the Sharks – he’s played with them his entire career and signed a four-year extension with the team in 2018.
People commented on the photos with a mix of awe and adoration. One person said he’s the MVP, another thank him for a great season. His Sharks teammate Marcus Sörensen posted star-eyed emojis in response.
