Once upon a time, the San Francisco Giants were in the throes of a hot streak and a long-shot playoff run. That was a few weeks ago. It’s mid-September now, and the Giants are sitting with a 69-75 record, 8.5 games back of the second wild-card spot. Their playoff odds, once as high as 8.8%, have sunk to a definitive 0.0% according to Fangraphs.
There is no tension remaining in this 2019 Giants season. There are, potentially, the last few Madison Bumgarner starts, and an opportunity to reflect on a decade of excellence. There are the promising young guys — Mauricio Dubon, Jaylin Davis, Chris Shaw — who one can visualize carving out a spot on next year’s roster. And then there’s Saturday’s extremely tantalizing promotional offer: a two-for-one Alaska Airlines flight voucher for the first 40,000 fans at the 6:05 p.m. home game against the Marlins.
Here are the details, according to the Giants:
Buy one coach class ticket at the regular price and get a second ticket for just the taxes. Discount code is valid for 50% off coach base fare levels published at alaskaair.com. Valid for itineraries with exactly two people, traveling together and booked and ticketed at the same time in the same reservation and at the same fare; valid for one-way or round-trip travel. If the itinerary is canceled or changed, any refund or credit issued will be for the discounted price for each ticket.
It appears this promotional deal is driving a bit of interest in Saturday’s game. As of this writing, one can purchase a ticket on Stubhub for as cheap as $6 for Friday night’s game against the Marlins. On Saturday, the cheapest available ticket jumps to $33.
The voucher can only be used between Oct. 29, 2019 and Feb. 13, 2020.
